Opportunity Overview

The University of Lausanne gives about 10 outstanding foreign students a year a master's grant of CHF 1,600 a month, with exemption from enrolment fees. UNIL Master's Grants target graduates of foreign universities with distinguished academic results. The grant is paid for the minimum statutory length of the chosen master's, three or four semesters, ten months a year from 15 September to 15 July, and grantees are exempt from fixed registration fees except CHF 80 per semester. UNIL guarantees grantees a room with the Lausanne student housing foundation (FMEL), with rent paid by the student, and points out that the grant is not full funding, as living costs in Lausanne are about CHF 2,000 a month. Most master's programmes are eligible, except medicine, educational sciences and practices, law (other than international and comparative law, legal theory and international tax law and policy), physical education and sport teaching, health sciences, sustainable management and technology, human taphonomy and MAS programmes. Applicants need a foreign degree equivalent to a UNIL bachelor's (180 ECTS) before the master's starts, C1 French or English depending on the programme's language, and no previous registration at UNIL; there is no nationality or age limit. The online application, uploaded as a single PDF, also serves as the admission application and carries a non-refundable CHF 200 fee, and referees send their letters directly to UNIL. The standing deadline is 1 November of the year before entry, so 1 November 2026 for 2027–2028, with results announced in early April.

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) 2027–2028

Master, Bachelor, PhD

A fully funded scholarship from the Chinese government, administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), for bachelor's, master's and PhD study at Chinese universities. It covers tuition, campus accommodation, a monthly stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. There are two routes: the bilateral route (Type A) through the Chinese embassy or the designated agency in your country (often the Ministry of Higher Education), or directly through designated Chinese universities (Type B). Bachelor's applicants now need a CSCA test score. The portal usually opens in November–December 2026; deadlines are set by each embassy or university and typically fall between late November 2026 and April 2027 (bilateral or embassy routes are often earliest). Bachelor's applicants must sit the CSCA test (December or January sessions) before applying. International airfare is not covered.

Eligible fields include natural and technical sciences, medicine and health sciences, agricultural sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts. The grant lasts one to nine months and pays EUR 1,300 a month, with a tuition fee waiver at the host university, and some grantees may receive a travel subsidy. OeAD helps arrange accommodation and health insurance, but grantees pay for both out of the grant. Applicants must be 35 or younger, have very good English or German, obtain written confirmation from an academic supervisor at an Austrian university and must not have studied or worked academically in Austria in the previous six months.
