Opportunity Overview

UCLouvain in Belgium funds 15 incoming postdoctoral fellowships a year for all nationalities, lasting 12 to 36 months and tax-exempt. The Special Research Fund (FSR) of UCLouvain finances these fellowships to attract internationally mobile researchers in all scientific fields to the university's sites in Louvain-la-Neuve, Brussels and elsewhere. The length is set between one and three years according to the researcher's experience, and the fellowship is paid tax-free, with social security contributions, civil liability insurance and an operating budget for research. Applicants must hold a doctorate with no more than five years of postdoctoral experience and must not have lived or carried out their main activity in Belgium for more than 24 months in the three years before the project start; all nationalities are eligible. Applications are submitted by a UCLouvain host supervisor, with at most one proposal per supervisor, and candidates must also apply in parallel to the F.R.S.-FNRS Chargé de recherche call. Selection involves an eligibility check, pre-selection, external review and interviews with the top candidates, based on candidate quality, project quality and impact. The 2027 call closed on 23 September 2026; the 2028 call has not yet been announced and, based on the last cycle, is expected to open in summer 2027 with a September deadline.

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) 2027–2028

Master, Bachelor, PhD

A fully funded scholarship from the Chinese government, administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), for bachelor's, master's and PhD study at Chinese universities. It covers tuition, campus accommodation, a monthly stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. Bachelor's applicants now need a CSCA test score. The portal usually opens in November–December 2026; deadlines are set by each embassy or university and typically fall between late November 2026 and April 2027 (bilateral or embassy routes are often earliest). Bachelor's applicants must sit the CSCA test (December or January sessions) before applying. International airfare is not covered.
