Opportunity Overview

A scholarship worth 25% of one year's tuition for new international master's students at the University of Auckland, offered twice a year by invitation. The University of Auckland gives this award to new international students who hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a master's programme. It is worth 25% of one year of tuition fees and needs no prior application: the university invites eligible students to complete a short online supplementary form, and awards are made on the faculty's recommendation. In the current round, for Semester One and Quarter Two 2027 intakes, students with offers by 20 October 2026 were invited on 21 October and the form closed on 4 November 2026. The date of the next round (for mid-2027 intakes) has not been announced, so apply for admission early. You must be an international student (not a New Zealand or Australian citizen or resident), study full-time on campus and not have studied at tertiary level in New Zealand before, and the award cannot be combined with the university's other international scholarships.

University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship 2027 (NZ$35,468 a Year)

PhD

A funded PhD at New Zealand's top-ranked university: fees covered and a tax-free stipend of NZ$35,468 a year for up to 42 months. The next round closes on 1 February 2027. The University of Auckland awards this scholarship to domestic doctoral students and to international students who qualify for domestic fees, meaning they live in New Zealand throughout the programme (research abroad is capped at 12 months in total). It covers compulsory tuition and the Student Services Fee, pays a stipend of NZ$35,468 a year (2026 rate, adjusted for inflation) and, for international students, the compulsory health insurance charge, for up to 42 months. There is no separate form: you ask to be considered in your doctoral admission application. There are four rounds a year, with the next closing dates on 1 February, 1 May and 1 August 2027, and offers about two months later. International students in professional doctorates (DMedSc, DClinPsy, DocFA, EdD, DHSc) and anyone who already holds a doctorate are not eligible. Find a supervisor first and submit your admission application before the round closes.
