Opportunity Overview

A fully funded scholarship from the Chinese government, administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), for bachelor's, master's and PhD study at Chinese universities. It covers tuition, campus accommodation, a monthly stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. There are two routes: the bilateral route (Type A) through the Chinese embassy or the designated agency in your country (often the Ministry of Higher Education), or directly through designated Chinese universities (Type B). Bachelor's applicants now need a CSCA test score. The portal usually opens in November–December and deadlines fall between January and April 2027.

Eligibility & Acceptance Criteria

Open to non-Chinese citizens in good health.
Age limits: under 25 for bachelor's, under 35 for master's, under 40 for PhD.
Secondary-school certificate for bachelor's, bachelor's degree for master's, master's degree for PhD.
Type A (bilateral) applicants apply through the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country, or the designated national agency (often the Ministry of Higher Education); Type B applicants apply directly to a designated Chinese university.
Bachelor's applicants must submit a valid CSCA (China Scholastic Competency Assessment) score report; register for a test session at csca.cn before applying.

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, run by the Research Grants Council (RGC), funds about 400 outstanding students of any nationality to pursue a full-time PhD at Hong Kong universities. Fellows receive an annual stipend of about HK$344,400 (≈US$44,000) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,400 a year for up to three years; many universities add tuition waivers and other awards. The 2027/28 call is open from 1 September to 1 December 2026 (12:00 noon Hong Kong time).
