Opportunity Overview

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, run by the Research Grants Council (RGC), funds about 400 outstanding students of any nationality to pursue a full-time PhD at Hong Kong universities. Eligibility & Acceptance Criteria

Open to applicants of all nationalities seeking admission as new full-time PhD students at a UGC-funded university in Hong Kong.
Must meet the PhD admission requirements of the chosen university (usually a strong bachelor's or master's degree).
Selection is based on academic excellence, research ability and potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership.
Two-step application: obtain an HKPFS reference number from the RGC online system, then apply to up to two PhD programmes at one or two universities before 1 December 2026.
