Opportunity Overview

The Mexican Government Excellence Scholarships, run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and AMEXCID, support foreign students from more than 180 countries for study and research at Mexican universities, including undergraduate and master's exchanges, full master's and doctoral programmes and postgraduate research stays, depending on the call. Scholars receive a monthly stipend (MXN 14,264 in 2026, for up to 12 months), IMSS health insurance from the seventh month, a visa fee waiver and, for some countries, a return flight home at the end. Applications are in Spanish and a Spanish B2 certificate is required for non-native speakers. The 2026 call ran from 21 May to 22 June 2026; the 2027 call usually opens around May–June.

Health insurance

Mexican Social Security (IMSS) health insurance from the seventh month of the scholarship.

The visa fee is waived; a one-way economy flight home at the end is provided for countries listed in the airfare annex.

Eligibility & Acceptance Criteria

Citizen of one of the 180+ countries listed in the call's annex (check that your country is listed in the current call).
Acceptance or pre-acceptance in a programme included in the call's academic offer, and a minimum average of 8.5/10 (85/100).
At least 18 years old; Spanish B2 certificate for non-native speakers; one application per person, submitted in Spanish on the SRE platform.
