Opportunity Overview
The Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) is a fully English-taught PhD run by Academia Sinica with Taiwan's national research universities, with 14 programmes: East Asia and the Making of the Modern World, Chemical Biology and Molecular Biophysics, Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Molecular Medicine, Interdisciplinary Neuroscience, Earth System Science, Biodiversity, Bioinformatics, Social Networks and Human-Centered Computing, Artificial Intelligence of Things, and three joint-admission programmes in Molecular Science and Technology, Nano Science and Technology and Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology. Applications for Fall 2027 are open from 1 November 2026 to 1 February 2027 (23:59 Taiwan time), for one programme only and with no application fee. Admitted students receive a tax-free stipend of NT$40,000 a month in the first year, extended for another year for those who perform well, after which funding depends on the advisor, with extra performance fellowships available. Academia Sinica also pays the difference between international and domestic tuition for five years, so students pay only the domestic rate (about NT$28,000–31,000 per semester for the first four semesters, then NT$16,000–20,000). Bachelor's or master's holders may apply, and an advisor need not be chosen until the end of the first year. English: TOEFL iBT 79–80, IELTS 5.5 or TOEIC 785 from the last two years, with waivers for English-taught graduates and citizens of English-speaking countries.
