Opportunity Overview
A scholarship programme funded by the Romanian Government through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and run since 2007 by the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). It gives doctoral students and teacher-researchers from French-speaking countries a three-month research stay at one of about 30 partner Romanian universities, on a topic offered by the host. In late October 2026 a ministerial order published in Romania's Official Gazette set at least 40 scholarships for 2026–2027 in four fields: science and technology; humanities and social sciences; arts, letters and foreign languages; and architecture and landscape. The new AUF call is not yet online; in the 2025–2026 round, applications ran from 20 October to 30 November 2025 and stays took place from 1 May to 31 July 2026. Doctoral students and teacher-researchers from AUF-member higher-education institutions in member and observer states of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie and in Algeria can apply, including Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Mauritania, Djibouti, the Comoros and the countries of West and Central Africa. Applying has two steps: first obtain a host attestation from a partner Romanian university through its pre-selection procedure, then submit the online application on the AUF platform before the deadline. All documents must be in French, and nothing can be added once the form is validated. Fellows receive a monthly allowance from the Romanian state during the stay, as set in the programme regulations.
