Opportunity Overview

The Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature is an annual Omani award whose Arab edition grants the Sultan Qaboos Order for Culture, Science, Arts and Literature and OMR 100,000 (about US$260,000) to one winner in each of culture, arts and literature; nominations for the 14th edition have not opened yet. The award alternates between an Arab edition, in which Omanis compete with other Arabs, and an Omani-only edition worth OMR 50,000. The 2025 (12th) edition was Arab, with winners the Assilah Forum Foundation of Morocco (private cultural institutions), Egyptian sculptor Essam Darwish (sculpture) and Lebanese critic Yumna al-Eid (biography); the 2026 (13th) edition is Omani-only, has closed and announces its winners in November 2026, so the 2027 edition is expected to be Arab. Each year one branch is chosen in each field: culture (language, history, heritage, philosophy, translation, studies of thought), arts (music, visual art, sculpture, photography) and literature (poetry, novel, short story, criticism, playwriting). In the Arab edition the award is given for a candidate's whole body of work and achievements, and nominations or self-nominations are made online on the award website with a CV and copies of the works. In 2026 nominations opened on 25 March; watch the website for the 2027 fields and dates.
