Opportunity Overview
Every year Al-Azhar allocates a number of fully funded scholarships to each country for study at Al-Azhar University in Cairo or at pre-university level in its institutes, announced through the Ministry of Education or the Egyptian embassy in the student's country. For 2026–27, for example, Uganda received 30 places (12 pre-university, 7 Islamic Sharia sciences and 11 scientific and theoretical studies) with a 30 July 2026 deadline, and Pakistan 50 bachelor's places in Sharia sciences with a 29 June 2026 deadline. Students register on Al-Azhar University's international students portal (or the platform named by their national authority) and then send attested documents through that authority. Typical documents: an Al-Azhar secondary certificate or equivalent attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a statement of subjects studied, birth certificate, passport copy, six photos, an approved medical certificate and a certificate of good conduct. Numbers, fields, conditions and dates differ by country and are usually announced between May and July; watch your Ministry of Education or the Egyptian embassy for the 2027–28 round. The official notices we read do not itemise benefits such as housing or a monthly allowance, so ask the announcing authority.
