Opportunity Overview

The harmonised Tri-Agency postdoctoral programme (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR) that replaced the Banting Fellowships. It pays CAD 70,000 a year for 24 months. International applicants are eligible if they are doing, or have completed, a doctorate at a Canadian institution, or are currently postdocs at one; up to 20% of awards go to them. Deadlines depend on the agency: SSHRC 10 September, CIHR 16 September and NSERC 17 October 2026.

Eligibility & Acceptance Criteria

3 Criteria
Hold, or expect to hold, a PhD before the award starts, completed no more than three years before 1 September of the application year (extensions possible).
International applicants: currently enrolled in, or graduated from, a doctorate at a Canadian institution, or currently a postdoc at one; up to 20% of awards.
Not holding a tenure-track post and no previous Tri-Agency postdoctoral award; apply to the agency matching your field (max. three attempts).
