Opportunity Overview
Scholarships from the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to attend a three- to four-week intensive Czech language course in July and August 2027 at a public university in Prague, Brno, Olomouc, Pilsen, České Budějovice or Poděbrady. Courses include Czech classes from absolute beginner (A0) to advanced (C1), lectures on Czech literature, culture and history, and excursions and cultural events, taught in Czech or English depending on your level. The scholarship covers registration and tuition, study materials, dormitory accommodation, meals and organised trips, but not international travel, health insurance or visa costs. You cannot apply directly: a competent body in your country (ministry, Czech embassy or partner institution) must nominate you, after which you register in the Ministry's online system. In the 2026 round, nominations had to reach the Ministry by 31 March 2026, and eligible countries included Egypt, France, Belgium (Flemish and French Communities), Luxembourg, Switzerland, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Ukraine, the USA and most European countries. The Ministry expects to announce the 2027 call in December 2026 or January 2027, and nominating bodies set their own national deadlines. You must be at least 18; priority goes to students, teachers and translators of Czech and Slavonic studies, but anyone interested in Czech culture may be considered.

About the scholarship
CzechiaCzech Government Scholarships for Developing Countries 2028–2029
The Czech Ministry of Education (MŠMT) offers government scholarships to students from selected developing countries for a two-year follow-up master's or a 3–4 year doctoral programme at Czech public universities, taught in English (or in Czech for some countries, after a free one-year Czech language course). Scholars pay no tuition and receive a monthly stipend of CZK 16,000 (master's) or CZK 24,960 (doctoral), plus health care like a Czech resident; travel is not covered. In the 2027/2028 call the eligible countries were Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Ethiopia, Gabon, Mauritania, Zambia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Palestine, Guatemala and Honduras. That call closed on 30 September 2026; the next call usually opens in August.

CzechiaBarrande Fellowship Programme 2027–2028: CZK 35,000 a Month for French–Czech Joint PhD Supervision (Cotutelle)
The Barrande Fellowship Programme, funded by the Czech Ministry of Education and the French Embassy in Prague, supports PhD students preparing a jointly supervised thesis (cotutelle) between a French and a Czech university; applications for 2027–2028 are open from 30 October 2026 to 29 January 2027. A PhD student registered at a French institution receives CZK 35,000 a month while in Czechia, for five months a year for up to three years (15 months in total), and a student registered at a Czech institution (other than French citizens) receives about EUR 1,700 a month while in France. There is no nationality requirement for students registered in France, which makes it a good fit for Arab and African doctoral students at French universities, but you must be enrolled, or about to enrol, in the PhD at both universities; second-year master's students may apply if they graduate before the first stay. Travel costs are not covered. Apply online in English through the Czech DZS portal with a CV, cover letter, project description, recommendation letters from the French and Czech supervisors and a transcript; shortlisted candidates present their project to a bilateral committee, and results usually come in April.
